The holidays are officially over and we’ve stepped firmly into January 2025! If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get out and enjoy this city more, Apt613 can help you do that – we’ve compiled this handy dandy roundup of what’s going on in Ottawa this weekend.

All Weekend

With some milder weather and, maybe, even some sunshine in this weekend’s forecast, it’s a great time to enjoy the outdoors. Whether on foot, skis, or snowshoes, there are several beautiful trails to check out in and around town. For a great summary of some of the spots, check out Apt613’s articles here and here.

If you are curious to learn more about how animals survive outside in the winter months, you can take a guided snowshoe hike in Gatineau Park this Saturday and Sunday. While English tour tickets are sold out, there is still availability on both days for the French-speaking tours, which happen in the morning on Saturday and the afternoon on Sunday.

Did Santa forget to bring you that perfect piece of art for your home that you have been wanting? Your search ends at the Ottawa Art Gallery. Their Art & Parcel sale is in its final weekend this weekend and features many beautiful works by Canadian artists.

If you’re looking to get caught up on the best films of 2024 for awards season, check out what’s playing at our local independent theatres this weekend. Our resident cinephile has shared some great recommendations here.

613flea is back at the Aberdeen Pavilion on Saturday for their first market of 2025. If you’re looking for new art, handmade housewares or cool vintage finds, check them out from 10-4pm.

Thursday

You’ll want to come hungry to the Resident Chef Culinary Event this Thursday night at the NAC. The NAC’s first Resident Chef of 2025, Resa Solomon-St. Lewis, will partner with the NAC’s Executive Chef, Kenton Leier, to bring guests a stunning five course meal, complete with wine pairings.

The vernissage of Figureworks takes place at Wallack Galleries on Thursday night. The exhibition features a juried prize for the best art piece honouring the human form in any medium.

Friday

Dance your way into the weekend at an 80’s Dance Party with Remi Royale and The Start at House of Targ this Friday. The Start starts the party with a live band performance of your favourite 80’s songs. Then Remi Royale will jump on the decks to bring you even more 80’s greatness.

The SPAO Centre Gallery is holding an opening reception for their newest exhibition ASYLUM Friday evening. Local artists Neeko Paluzzi and Olivia Johnston headline the photographic exhibition, in their roles as new members of SPAO’s educational leadership team. The reception is free to attend from 5-7pm.

Saturday

If you have yet to check out our Professional Women’s Hockey League team, now is your chance. Ottawa Charge, our city’s team, take on the Boston Fleet this Saturday afternoon at TD Place.

Sunday

This weekend is the first Winter Market for the Ottawa Farmers’ Market at Lansdowne. Stay cozy in the Aberdeen Pavilion, as you stroll amongst over 85 vendors.
