Somehow it’s the end of August already and it feels like the weather is turning cooler, and that means a long weekend full of things to do!

All weekend

Ottawa Weekend Fest, a Ukrainian music festival close to Ottawa in Val-des-Monts is taking place Aug. 31 – Sept. 1.

The Ottawa Serbian Festival takes place all weekend with delicious food, live music, vibrant dance, engaging children’s activities, and more!

End of summer means it’s time for the Gatineau Hot Air Ballon Festival until Sept. 2.

Thursday

Pieces of Us (POU) is hosting its second-anniversary event at Club SAW at 7pm. POU is a curated theme-based event that can best be described as a creative experience. Every month their platform hosts artists from an array of different disciplines, including musicians, visual artists, singers, and dancers. Here’s the event link and their Instagram.

House of PainT’s OG500 Poetry Slam sees 13 talented poets face off in a series of head-to-head spoken word battles in Ottawa’s largest and most competitive poetry slam. Organized by House of PainT, poets will compete for a cash prize of $500 and bragging rights.

Friday

Just in time for International Overdose Awareness Day, the Ontario government has announced changes that put some safe consumption sites at risk of closing. Show your support, learn more, and help recognize this huge issue for our communities with the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre at the Human Rights Monument at 11am.

STORY UP Shorts in CANADA has been designed to introduce the works of aspiring Korean directors to North American audiences, featuring outstanding short films that demonstrate innovative direction and compelling storytelling. One of the three film screenings will include a ‘Directors Talk’ session, featuring director Lim of Forest of Echoes. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear directly from Lim about the planning and creative vision behind the film.

The Kemptville Street Piano Concert Series presents Soul Blues Artist Jeff Rogers in a free concert.

House of TARG is hosting a pinball summer free-play Saturday nite arcade hang for a great night of free play games across 35+ pinball and classic arcade games!

The Lowertown Community Association is thrilled to announce the “Movie in the Park” event, in collaboration with Capital Pop-Up Cinema, is coming to Jules Morin Park! The fun starts at 8pm, and they’ll be screening the classic family favourite, Space Jam.
