It has been another hot week here in the 613, but we’ve made it through and this weekend promises blue skies, sunshine, and some milder weather for us to enjoy. There is also plenty going on this weekend in our great town, so get out there and have some fun! It is the summer, after all!

If you missed out on Asian Fest weekend back at the beginning of June, don’t fret. Yet another Asian Fest is taking place this weekend, in honour of their 10th anniversary, and this time it is at Lansdowne! There you will find all your tried and true street food favourites, but new to this festival are Dao Cafe, Wok n Roll, Fei Fung, King Takoyaki, and Flaming Squid.

The Ottawa Lebanese Festival runs through the weekend at St. Elias Cathedral. There will be some amazing foods – like tabouli, falafel, shawarma, lebanese pies, and “saj” bread, to name a few. There will also be a midway, with rides and games; cultural music and dance performances; and a marketplace.

Carivibe, a Carribean festival, is throwing a beach party at Petrie Island this weekend. There will be tropical food, drinks, music, and dance.

Thursday

Lansdowne Park Movie Nights will be hosting a free screening of A Midsummer Night’s Dream this Thursday at 8:45pm. Eccentric Adam will be there to entertain before the show. Some seating will be available, but feel free to bring your own.

Friday

The first of Studio Sixty Six’s summer exhibitions kicks off with a public reception this Friday night, beginning at 6:30pm. Transition, curated by Remi Theriault features photography by Magida El-Kassis, Gary Franks, Melle Harris, Neeko Paluzzi, and Xiatong Cai. The show is “not only about change in events around us but also a reflection within ourselves, with some of these artists more literally than others”.

Saturday

Do it for the Grain’s summer photo walk, hosted by film photographer Jenna and focused on the theme of Sweet Treats, takes place this Saturday. Grab your film camera and head over to Arlington 5 for 2pm and take a stroll down to Knyota Drinks. Jenna will have some great tips for film photographers looking to capture some candid photos.

You may have heard of Urban Art Collective’s Hintonburg Night Markets on Thursday nights, but they’ve also started a weekly themed night market on Saturday nights and this Saturday’s market is a Comic and Geek Night Market. Here you will find 18 vendors, offering up “all things comic, gamer, kitsch, geek, and pop culture”.

Pints in the Park in Manor Park celebrates its fifth year with pints from Original Local Lager and Orleans Brewing Co, as well as wine from Reif Estate Winery and Cider. There will also be food from Fire Box Pizza, Snack O Shack, and Edinburger. For those who don’t drink/don’t want to drink, but still wish to enjoy the event, there will be non-alcoholic beverage options for you as well!

Lansdowne is a busy place this weekend! Ottawa’s popular marketplace 613flea returns this Saturday, from 10am until 4pm at Aberdeen Square at Lansdowne Park. Featuring an ever rotating inventory of goods from 150 artisans, artists, makers and vintage sellers, visitors can support local and small businesses as they discover handmade treasures, upcycled items, and one-of-a-kinds finds, plus an array of delicious goodies from local food vendors.

Sunday

The Ottawa Mystic Market invites you to join them in celebrating the summer solstice – a little late, thanks to the rain. There will be twenty five vendors; including Hidden Moon, Shameless Envy, gldn grl, Miss Vincent, Strega Vintage, and more.

Soccer fans will want to head down to TD Place on Sunday afternoon at 2pm to see our first place Athletico Ottawa take on Winnipeg’s Valour FC. A portion of this game’s ticket sales will be donated to the CHEO foundation.

Cinema Club at Art House Café will be serving up some nostalgia this Sunday with a screening of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, beginning at 7pm. Seating is very limited, so be sure to purchase a ticket ahead of time to guarantee your spot.

Why not unwind from the weekend’s activities with a little yoga by the light of the moon? This month’s session of Full Moon Yoga takes place this Sunday eve at 9pm on the Great Lawn at Lansdowne.
