All Weekend
This weekend is your last chance to catch Grand Horizons at Ottawa Little Theatre. With shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, you can still get tickets to this delightful comedy about calling it quits on a marriage after 50 seemingly happy years. Read all about it in our review here. Tickets are $14 for students, and $30 for adults.
Start getting your beach reads ready for the upcoming warm weather at the Mutchmor Book Sale this weekend at Mutchmor Public School in the Glebe. The sale is open to the public Thursday and Friday from 4-8pm, Saturday from 10-4, and Sunday 10-2. The sale is a fundraiser for the school, and a great way to add to your bookshelves without hurting the wallet. (If you see me there with an armload of new books, no you didn’t.)
Thursday
For a chill night out/in, head to Art House on Somerset for Beats & Boards night. The whole café is reserved for game play, so bring a game from home, or borrow one of their 30+ games in house. The event starts at 7pm, which is perfect timing for a little snack and a drink or two. While you’re there, be sure to check out the amazing current exhibition State of Play by Apt613 photographer Curtis Perry. The event is free to attend, for all ages.
It’s do or die for the Ottawa 67s this Thursday night, as our boys are down 3-0 in their playoff series against the Oshawa Generals. If they win Thursday, we might play again at home on Sunday afternoon. There are still lots of seats left for this nail biter, so round up your loudest friends and help them avoid the dreaded sweep.
The Ottawa Storytellers signature series continues this Thursday with a spine tingling event at the Arts Court Blackbox Studio. Classic mysteries by British mystery master Margery Allingham will come alive as storytellers spin tales of romance, intrigue, and suspense in these whodunits. Three local storytellers will be taking centre stage, and there are only a few tickets left! General admission tickets are available online for $23.

“TikTok’s most fabulous farmer” Matt Mathews brings the “When That Thang Get Ta Thang’n” comedy tour to the Algonquin Commons Theatre on Friday night for some huge laughs. With over 3 million followers, he’s made a name for himself for his situational humour and taboo subject matter. Tickets start at $49.50 for the upper levels, but Algonquin College students save $10 on tickets at all levels.
Saturday
Did you miss your chance to see the Oscar winning Studio Ghibli film The Boy and the Heron in theatres? No you didn’t. The Ottawa Family Cinema on St Laurent is screening the crowd favourite film at 2pm in their huge theatre, for everyone to get their chance to see it. This volunteer-run, fully accessible theatre offers a full snack bar, as well as the cheapest movie prices in town. Members pay $4 in advance, or $6 at the door, and non members pay $6 in advance or $8 at the door. Get your tickets online in advance for this one!
Also on the big screen, but for totally different reasons, the Bytowne is screening a special 4/20 event The Dark Side of Oz starting at 9:30. Born from a long-running urban legend, this cinematic spectacle combines Victor Fleming’s iconic 1939 fantasy The Wizard of Oz with the music of Pink Floyd’s 1973 psychedelic opus The Dark Side of the Moon. This sounds just crazy enough to be a great time. Get your tickets online ahead of time for $14 for non-members.
Women’s sports continue to dominate the news cycle, and our very own PWHL is still creating tons of buzz all over North America. It’s been a month since our ladies were at home at TD Place, and some of them have recently won some pretty impressive IIHF hardware too. This Saturday the Ottawans are home again, against the 2nd place team from Minnesota. There are still some tickets for sale in the upper bowl, which will most definitely sell out before game time! Don’t miss one of your last chances to see the team this season! Tickets start at about $25. BONUS MONDAY: PWHL Ottawa is holding their first Fan Fest on Monday the 22nd at TD Place as well.

The Ottawa Pops Orchestra is ending their season with whisper! The content of their final show of the season has been kept top secret, and promises to be surprising at every turn. Guest performers will include Bytown Sea Shanty Collective, Voices Dance Project, and breaking pottery from the Ottawa Potters Guild. Ottawa Pops never lets us down, so we know that this will only be full of good surprises. There are still some tickets left starting at $27.96 for the Under 30 crowd.
Sunday
For some spring cheer, head to the Glebe for the Spring in Bloom Craft Market by Square Lemon. From 10:30-3pm at the Glebe Communty Centre you will find over 50 local artisans and vendors selling their wares.
Sunday April 21 is Tartan Day, if you didn’t know, which means that we’re in for a visual treat. Starting at 12pm join the parade to Parliament Hill from the Lord Elgin Hotel along Elgin. Come along as pipers, drummers, dancers, singers, and corgis present a grand show with something for people of all ages. Wear your tartans, bring your friends, and come be part of the annual event hosted by the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band of Ottawa. Then head to Deacon Brodie’s for a few wee drams afterwards of course.
