Tis the (beginning) of the season! Holiday events are starting to pop up around town (including the Help Santa Toy Parade this Saturday) so keep an eye on the blog in the coming weeks for all the going ons.

All Weekend

Watson’s Mill is hosting three weekends of Christmas markets starting this weekend (and continuing November 25–26 and December 2–3).

The 38th European Film Festival includes one film from each of the 27 European Union member states. Single tickets or full festival passes are available online.

Capital Rainbow Refuge’s Freedom Soirée is this Friday. Funds raised support the LGBTQI+ refugee community. Take part in person or virtually.

Main Street Revival and The Artichoke Hearts are playing Irene’s Pub Friday night.

Enjoy an ‘80s dance party with DJ Remi Royale and The Start at House of TARG.

Saturday

613flea winds down its 2023 season from 10am–4pm this Saturday at Lansdowne. Free admission and 150 artisans and vendors in the Aberdeen Pavilion. Get all the details on their Facebook page.

Enjoy some delicious Ukrainian food and unique gifts at the 2023 Ukrainian Christmas Market.

The National Arts Centre presents Anachnid: “Winner of the Indigenous Artist of the Year award this year and winner of the SOCAN Foundation Indigenous Songwriter of the year in 2019, Anachnid is a multidisciplinary Oji-Cree artist based in Montreal.”

The 54th edition of the Help Santa Toy Parade starts at 11am at the corner of Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue, then heads west to Bank Street and down to Lansdowne. The parade will accept toy donations for Ottawa’s Toy Mountain.

Tis the Season to Shop Local Craft Market takes over the Glebe Community Centre from 10:30am–3pm.

House of PainT and Art House Café are hosting a House Party this Saturday with DJs, raffles, merch, drinks, and more!

The Metcalfe Christmas Market is at the Greely Community Centre from 9am–2pm.

The Beechwood Night Market takes place at MacKay United Church featuring shopping, live music, food, and drinks.

Voices Dance Project is hosting a dance film screening at the Mayfair Theatre. Seven short dance films from filmmakers in the National Capital Region and beyond will be shown. Films range between 4–18 minutes and use dance as their primary means of storytelling. Many of the works being shown at this screening feature local dancers and original compositions by local musicians. Doors at 2:30pm, screening at 3pm. Tickets are $15 online via Eventbrite or $18 cash at the door. All profits from the screening will go directly to the filmmakers whose work is being presented.

Sunday

The Collected Strands Improvised Music ensemble with violinist Leah Roseman, cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne, pianist James McGowan, and drummer Mike Essoudry, will be at Mackay United Church this Sunday at 8pm. The group plays improvised chamber music for a truly unique concert experience. This is a pay-what-you-can event, with a suggested donation of $25 (tap option available).

Ottawa Pocket Jazz Band will provide live music of the swing, contemporary jazz, and funk variety at Lavender Grill (47 Clarence Street) starting at 7:30pm.

The Goulbourn Museum is hosting an old-fashioned Christmas and outdoor artisan market from 10am–3pm.
