Alright 613ers, we’ve all gotten a taste of summer, but let’s not rush spring yet! There are so many great events taking place all weekend and throughout the city. Let us know what you get up to!

All Weekend

The Ontario Welsh Festival is on all weekend with events ranging from live music to film screenings, presentations, a bus tour and more!

Also taking place all weekend is the Ottawa Grassroots Festival with the daytime and Sunday programming free! There are plenty of live performances, panels, and workshops dedicated to cultivating community.

If that summer-like weather last week got you thinking ahead to your plans these next few months, you might want to check out the Ottawa Cottage Life and Backyard Show for ideas!

On Friday or Saturday, you can head to the NAC for their #ReconcileThis Art Build to create and paint screen-printed banners in support of the #ReconcileThis movement. It’s free, drop-in, and all materials are provided, though you can also bring a t-shirt to print.

Catch the final few performances of The First Stone at the The Great Canadian Theatre Company this weekend. Described as an”epic-yet-intimate examination of violence and forgiveness” by Donna-Michelle St Bernard, the piece explores stories of war and family in an unnamed international village modelled on similar places in Uganda.

Thursday

Stephen Fearing & The Sentimentals take the stage at Shenkman Arts Centre. There are few artists that can be referred to as a roots troubadour, song-writing storyteller and master guitarist, and Stephen Fearing is one of them.

Check out Animation Show-N-Tell at the Mayfair Theatre starting at 9:30pm. Industry pros, independent artists, and hobbyists come together to share their latest animated creations on the big screen and talk about what inspires them! The show runs about an hour followed by a Q&A with animators. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Friday

Amber Long, one of Canada’s top DJ-producers in progressive house and melodic techno and label owner of Modern Agenda, hits up Club Berlin (the former Mercury Lounge).

The Flower Power 2023 Roller Party has an all-ages session and an adults-only session in the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne. Bring your own skates or rent some, and get ready to groove to the lights and sounds!

Saturday

Find handcrafted and environmentally friendly items at the Eco Market in honour of Earth Day, with a portion of proceeds donated to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Celebrate Earth Day with a Tree Tour of Old Ottawa South and a walk through the neighbourhood.

Lee Valley Tools is hosting an Introduction to Woodturning workshop for beginners. Two time slots available!

The NAC Southam Hall stage welcomes the Social Tango Project with a performance beginning at 8pm. This interactive dance experience features a mix of narrative, performance, and documentary film. The show will be followed by a free milonga (dance party/lesson) with amateur and professional dancers on hand to demonstrate and dance with members of the public. No previous experience required!

The annual Show Tune Showdown returns for its 16th year and will see three local musical theatre groups compete in a fundraiser for Tone Cluster choir’s season of concerts, community and festival appearances. Check out the BFFs’ preview.

Find your thrifted and vintage clothing, decor, accessories and more at the Parking Lot Pop-Up with more than 25 vendors.

Sunday

The 2023 NACO Bursary Competition will be awarding prizes totalling over $21,000 to finalists performing orchestral excerpts and a concerto movement.
