Welcome to the first full weekend of spring—and a presidential visit! This weekend promises a mix of weather and traffic conditions as much of the downtown core is closed down for President Biden’s visit. Stay up to date on the latest with the City’s special POTUS website.

All Weekend

Weather got you questioning your weekend plans? Duck into one of Ottawa’s local cinemas to enjoy a show. Need a suggestion? Check out our post here.

Broadway Across Canada presents Aladdin at the National Arts Centre from March 21-26. Check out our review here and snag your tickets soon!

Has your spring cleaning got you feeling inspired around the house? Need help completing some projects? Check out the Ottawa Home Show which runs all weekend at the EY Centre.

SCI_ART brings together artists, scientists and academics for a two-day program of panel discussions, artist talks, performances and book launches at the Ottawa Art Gallery. The event presents an array of diverse viewpoints and approaches to understanding artistic and scientific collaboration.

The Montgomery Scotch Lounge (on Gladstone, which took over the location formerly occupied by Pressed) is hosting Jazz Nights every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Check out the event calendar here.

The Ottawa 67’s are into their final weekend of regular season hockey and have two games: on Friday, they take on the Peterborough Petes, and on Saturday they’ll face the Barrie Colts. Tickets to the games at TD Place Arena are available online.

Thursday

In partnership with the Embassy of Belgium, Alliance Française Ottawa presents Soirée René Magritte Thursday from 6-8pm. The evening features a book club followed by a conference on the work of Belgian painter René Magritte.

Ottawa painter Tavi Weisz has a solo exhibition opening this Thursday at Galerie St Laurent + Hill (293 Dalhousie Streeet). Weisz describes his work as “the result of a process of translation, visually filtering an image through my own memories into paint. The paintings are an attempt to project the viewer into an imaginary space and allow them to visually penetrate that space.”

Friday

Broadway Workout, a dance-based cardio workout class, is back for its spring season! The classes are all about having fun, expressing yourself and joining a lively community! Unlike traditional workout classes, Broadway Workout isn’t about weight loss or punishing yourself to reach a goal. Classes start Friday at three locations around town. Sign up at BroadwayWorkout.ca

Do It For the Grain is celebrating their four year anniversary with an exhibition at Happy Goat. The exhibition, HOME, features 35 Ottawa-and-area analog artists who provided a photographic answer to the question, “What does Home mean to you?”.

Saturday

Music in Greenboro partners with Lost Baggage Musical Theatre to present “Plot Twist! A Cabaret of Unexpected Surprises”—a collection of musical theatre numbers with twisted endings. The show’s finale will be a ten minute musical entitled Finding the Words – it’s the final rehearsal at a small regional theater, and the lead actor STILL can’t remember his lines. Only the director’s klutzy assistant can help save the show… Admission is by donation at the door on online.
