‘Tis the season for launch parties, apparently. Tonight Dann Oickle releases his new album Blitzkreig! down at the Mercury Lounge. Tomorrow, Oldam Brand kicks off its existence at IdeaSpace, displaying some of their unique fixtures and makings. Down on Elgin, the new Mags + Fags sister store Boogie and Birdie officially opens, with treats and deals galore.

There are plenty of craft shows happening, if you’re still looking for unique handcrafted gifts. Urban Craft is Saturday down in the Glebe, while the Ottawa Farmers Market has a special holiday version. If you’re out in Wakefield, check out their market, while the Bronson Centre will host the Magic Forest Yule Celtic Spirit craft show. There’s also a holiday art show down at Gallery 115 all night on Friday.

Tonight down at Pressed, you can catch a few members of Roberta Bondar in their new endeavour Heavy Bedroom, where they’ll be joined by Dog Day. Friday, PUP will be at Gabba Hey along with Gulls and Yes Please and Thank You, while it’s the final Indie Night at AlphaSoul cafe (the cafe will be closing soon). Bill Bissett hosts his annual A B Series Christmas party at Raw Sugar, with poetry, art and music all evening on Saturday. The Black Pepper Pub continues their music run with Keturah Johnson. If you’re in the mood for some Christmas classics, head to the Stairwell Carolers event, or catch Julie Nesrallah and the De La Salle Choir.

On Sunday, you can support the Food Bank at the Hintonburg Public House’s holiday bash, which will feature ornament competitions, plenty of eggnog, and far too many ugly sweaters.

Theatre goers can have a bit of mystery and mayhem tonight, while the Ottawa Storytellers team up with the NorthWinds Brass Quintet for Tales and Tunes throughout the weekend. Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) wraps up at the GCTC, while kids star in Mi Casa’s performance of Collapsible.

We’re also giving away two pairs of tickets to the performance of Ethan Claymore, playing down at the Gladstone for the next week. Just send us an email over at apartment613 at gmail.com with “Ethan Claymore” in the subject line by Friday at noon, and you’ll be entered in the draw. (We reviewed the show earlier this week – check it out here.)
