The Hull-based rapper and slam poet D-Track announced a new album for November 2021, and to make some noise for the upcoming release, he’s presented a new music video entitled “Du Nord”.
With this new single, D-Track aka David Dufour raps over a fresh sounding beat that’s for fans of east coast hip hop. However, D-Track’s lyrics (“Le froid pis la neige sont mes influences. J’affronte l’hiver avec une ceinture noire”) and his music video shine a light on northern culture from his perspective as a Québecois artist looking in on American hip hop.
As a first taste of the new music D-Track has in store for this year, “Du Nord” is an excellent single. Fans of D-Track who are familiar with his work—no less than eight albums and EPs since 2004—will agree that “Du Nord” is a great place to start your listening journey with the franco rap artist. He’s a treasure of the Outaouais slam and hip hop scene.
Whether you’re local to Vieux-Hull or downtown Ottawa, familiar sights will jump off the screen in D-Track’s clip—perhaps none more iconic than Le Quick Pick dépanneur on rue Laval.
