It’s that time of year again! That’s right, pumpkin spice season. But also, our Ottawa Senators are back for their 25th season of NHL action! Apt613 wants you to be there to watch some pre-season action live, care of the Red Scarf Union (RSU). See contest details at the bottom of this page!
If you’ve been to a Sens game the last two years, you may have noticed Canadian Tire Centre is a little less quiet on game day. For that, you can thank the RSU.
In 2014, the Senators decided to introduce something new to the NHL: a dedicated “supporters section,” much like what you see in soccer stadiums around the world. Section 312 at CTC is designed to be a place where Ottawa’s most passionate fans can feel comfortable standing, chanting and cheering on their team as much possible.
Founding RSU member Sylvie Delorme describes the reaction the group has received so far, and the group’s most important rule. “We’ve received very positive feedback from both players and fans. Although we realize the section is not for everyone, for some, it is the only section. The only stipulation is that in section 312, opposing colours are not permitted.”
For all the work RSU does to bring atmosphere to the arena, they are perhaps more proud of their work outside the arena. The group raises money for the Do It For Daron initiative supporting youth mental health through fundraising at their booth at every home game, and through a portion of ticket sales bought through the group.
