Happy World Photography Day, audiophiles! This week on Apartment613 Live, we explore how gazing through a camera – be it a a humble pinhole or an exorbitant DSLR – changes your perception of a place. We talk about shooting the Ottawa tourists don’t see with local photographer Justin Van Leeuwen, whose work graces the local cover of Spacing’s recent national issue. We get some travel tips from another Ottawa-based photoblogger, Amanda Large – she’s taken her trusty camera with her on her journeys through North America and beyond. And we share your tweets about some of the best under-the-radar spots in the nation’s capital to snap a memorable photo or two.
On the music front, we air an interview I recently did for our OpenFile Ottawa friends with Hollerado’s Menno Versteeg, in which we chatted about the Manotick band’s upcoming “Meet the Mayor” tour and the things that make for a good city. We also spin some quality tracks, as per usual – click through for the full playlist.
Finally, let’s all bid a fond farewell to our intern Evey Hornbeck, who’s been curating our tweets on air and bringing her radio-friendly vibes to the CHUO studios throughout the summer. It’s her last live show before she heads back to Halifax this fall – though you’ll still get to hear her voice on an upcoming documentary we’ll be airing in a few weeks. (Ironically, we forgot to remember her last show with a photo.) Adios, Evey! It’s been swell.
You can catch Apartment613 Live this summer on Thursdays from 2-3pm on CHUO 89.1 FM.
