The Ottawa Titans are back in the 613 this week after a short road trip to New Jersey over the weekend. They took the series against the New Jersey Jackals with a doubleheader on Sunday winning 6-3 in game one, followed by an an 11-5 extra innings victory in game two. The Titans are sitting in the middle of the standings in the Frontier League East, 6.5 games behind the current leaders, the New York Boulders. Our 12-14 record still puts us in the mix for second, as the Boulders are head and shoulders above the competition with a record of 18-7.

The Boulders have been a great team in recent years, and Ottawa Champions fans will remember the league bullies with very little fondness. This week, the Titans take on our old rivals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, followed by another series at home against the Jackals over the weekend.

Tuesday, June 11 is Baseball Bingo Night, with prizes for fans playing along on free Bingo cards. It’s a great way to learn more about the game, the terminology, and the stats that can make the sport seem much more complicated than it is! On Thursday, the team is celebrating 613 Night (no relation) which appears to be an opportunity to spotlight some other attractions that make Ottawa so awesome. Friday night is Girls’ Night Out with fireworks after the game, wine tastings and live music for the girlies. Beyond the Pale is sponsoring Sunday’s Fathers’ Day Game, so if you still haven’t made plans with your father figure, this is a sure bet for a low-key good time. On Sunday, be sure to get the breakfast burrito from Mr Señor!

The Titans have been doing well at home, and crowds have been showing up for the games, despite the crazy weather during the last homestand. They kicked off Pride month on June 1 with the Pride Game, winning 17-5 in a dramatic hard-hitting affair against Windy City. The first Bark in the Park was on the 31st, with a fantastic turnout of furry friends filling the park with enthusiasm. The next opportunity to bring your pooch will be August 22, so mark your calendars now!

Infielder AJ Wright continues to lead the Titans offensively, hitting .330 with six home runs and 19 RBI, and remaining a solid presence in the infield, making important plays. As we hoped, on the mound Erasmo Piñales is dominating in save situations with six saves and only one loss, and it is great to see him anchoring the team as a reliable and intimidating closer. Former New York Yankee Jake Sanford has slowed down in a major way, going into this homestand with a batting average of .140, despite a sizzling hot start to the season. Whether Sanford is injured, or just slumping remains to be seen. (If you want to sound clever at the next game, you can say that he’s “hitting on the interstate,” which is fun baseball lingo for someone batting between .100 and .199. To be clear, this is a bad thing. So only we can say it about our guys.)

The Titans are home until Sunday and then on the road until the 25th.

Advance tickets for Titans games are $12 or $16 and can be bought online or at the box office. Expect to pay $4 more on game days, regardless of where you buy them. Parking is through Indigo parking, so there are QR codes throughout the lot to pay by phone.
