The Ottawa Titans final homestand is a playoff race

By Kiersten Vuorimaki on August 27, 2024

Now winding down their third regular season in Ottawa, the Titans are in a wild playoff push. The team is back home at Ottawa Stadium for their final two series, and with an incredible 27-14 record at home, our chances of a playoff run are almost guaranteed.

It has been an impressive season, and the team has been playing consistent quality baseball in the second half, coming within reach of first place more than once. The Quebec Capitales sit atop the division right now, and we host them this weekend for one last grudge match series. The Ottawa Titans are currently in second place, and with a magic number of two, we are almost definitely guaranteed at least a spot in the Wild Card game. Ideally, we would place second in the division over the Tri-City Valley Cats and host them here next week for a nail-biter.

The Frontier League playoff structure is unusual, so a few moving parts are still in play. The top three teams from each division move on to the playoffs. The second-place team will host the third-place team from their division in a Wild Card game.  The winner of these games will face their division winners in a best-of-three Divisional Series, with the division winners hosting games two and three. The winner of the Divisional Series moves on to the Championship Series. The playoffs only last a total of two weeks.

The Titans have yet to make the playoffs in their short tenure here in Ottawa, but local ball fans will remember with glee the Ottawa Champions bringing home the pennant in 2016.

The Titans have been making significant roster changes in the last month, and adding power in the batting order with OF Jake Hjelle and IF Peyten Isaacson recently as OF Brendan O’Donnell has spent the second half of the season racking up hits, with a team-leading average of .316 going into this week. New starting pitcher CJ Blowers towers on the mound at 6’6″, and has been on fire with an ERA of 1.19 in 4 starts and 25.1 innings pitched.

This week, we are taking on the 4th place New York Boulders Tuesday—Thursday at 6:30pm, and finishing with the Capitales Friday-Sunday. On Tuesday night, you can play Baseball Bingo to win prizes and bone up on your baseball knowledge. This is a great way to learn more about the game, and sharpen your baseball instincts! On Thursday, they are giving away a trip to Jamaica to a fan who buys a ticket online and registers for the contest. Friday night is Fan Appreciation Night, with post-game fireworks and a baseball card giveaway to the first 500 fans in attendance. On Sunday, the team will be available after the game for autographs, and it is the final Sunday Funday of the season, with a bouncy castle and kids running the bases after the game.

Advance tickets for Titans games are $12 or $16 and can be bought online or at the box office. Expect to pay $4 more on game days, regardless of where you buy them. Parking is through Indigo Parking, so the lot has QR codes to pay by phone.
