Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker is Canadiana-themed, bringing a fantastical sense of whimsy to an otherwise technically complex and enchanting fairytale, playing at the NAC this week only.

The students of Trio Danceworks will be performing two Nutcracker shows on Saturday, December 17, at the Algonquin Commons Theatre.
For more than a century, The Nutcracker ballet has captivated audiences around the world. From December 1-4, Ottawans can enjoy this timeless tradition, as Les Grands Ballets Canadiens bring their version of this Christmas classic to the National Arts Centre. We interviewed several young local dancers in the ballet to highlight their talents.
This particular rendition of the play is an all-Canadian version of the classic story where Clara is not only joined by the Prince, the Mouse King, and the Sugar Plum Fairy; there are also Mounties, hockey games with snowball fights, and of course, Filbert the Bear.
Royal Winnipeg Ballet brings an immersive and elegant Nutcracker steeped in Canadiana with Mounted Police, Parliament Hill, and Hudson’s Bay merchandise. Its Canadian roots are evident and make for an ever more sincere experience.
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is set to perform seven shows of Nutcracker at the National Arts Centre December 4th through 8th.
Apartment613 met with three young ballet dancers from the Ottawa School of Dance who will be performing in the show.
