The Canadian Folk Music Awards have officially started! This year’s event takes place from April 3-6 at the National Arts Centre and the Canadian Museum of History. Apt613 sat down with Graham Lindsey, board president of the CFMAs, to talk about the awards and the folk music scene in Canada right now.
Before becoming an award-winning artist, Mia Kelly was a teen in musical theatre productions of Oliver Twist, Anne of Green Gables, Cats and other classics. And before that, an “overly energetic seven-year-old.” On April 3, Kelly will be back home in Gatineau for the CFMAs, where she is nominated for Best Single of the Year for her song “Meaning Well.”
Ottawa music acts in the running include Night Lovell, Tiagz, DRAE, Andrew Cassara, Céleste Lévis, Marie-Clo, Paragon Cause, Harea Band, Jessica Pearson & The East Wind, Jean Cloutier, The PepTides, Asuquomo, and Moonfruits.
