One of Ottawa’s premier community theatre groups has announced its next season—and there’s a lot to be excited about. Orpheus Musical Theatre is one of North America’s oldest and Canada’s longest-running community theatre organizations. It hasn’t been around this long because of luck—it’s because it consistently puts on quality shows. So here’s what’s coming up next season.

Annie (November 21-30)

Orpheus opens its season with the family favourite Annie. It’s a beloved musical about a young girl who has grown up in an orphanage run by Miss Hannigan, who isn’t a fan of the children in her care. When Annie meets billionaire Oliver Warbucks, her spunky personality adds charm to his stuffy lifestyle. You may have seen the original 1982 movie with big names, including Carol Burnett, Albert Finney, Bernadette Peters and Tim Curry, or heard one of its most well-known tunes—Tomorrow.

Jesus Christ Superstar (March 6 – 15)

The second show in the season is the Andrew Lloyd-Webber rock opera that follows the last week of Jesus’ life through the eyes of Judas. Told through song, the show highlights the conflicts of power, relationships and leading the masses. Known for the iconic rock score with the original production snagging five Tony nominations in 1972, and a 2016 revival winning an Olivier Award, and now in 2025, it is hitting the Orpheus stage for the first time!

Singin’ in the Rain (May 29 – June 7)

Wrapping up the season is Singin’ in the Rain, adapted from the 1952 film. Probably one of the most beloved movie musicals, the story follows the move away from silent film, into the era of sound. Don and Lina are the stars of the time and adapting to the new way of movie-making proves more difficult than expected. As sound ends up not being Lina’s forte, Don comes up with a plan to help make their next movie a success.
