We are giving away two pairs of tickets to the Friday, April 4, performance by la compagnie Virginie Brunelle.  To enter, email apartment613@gmail.com by 4 pm today, April 1, with the subject line “Virginie Brunelle NAC Contest”.  We will randomly pick both winners after the 4 pm deadline.

Many human relationships radiate with sexual energy.  How we face such situations often tells us a lot about how honest we are being with ourselves.

One artistic group that is not shy about exploring human desire is la compagnie Virginie Brunelle. Founded in 2009, the Montreal-based group is known for performing highly physical dance shows that are filled with sensuality.

Led by choreographer Virginie Brunelle who has won a number of awards  the company has gained an international reputation for its raw and at times carnal energy, in which occasionally flesh-baring dancers seek to demystify the human experience.

This intriguing company is now coming to Ottawa, where they will perform three shows from April 3-5 at the National Arts Centre.

“Introducing innovative choreographic voices is one of the most important mandates of NAC Dance, and the ever-inventive Virginie Brunelle is one of Montreal’s finest,” says Cathy Levy, executive producer of dance at the NAC, in a statement. “Virginie’s sensibility is raw yet refined, jarring yet emotional.”

Relatively new to the dance world, Brunelle has already won a number of awards, as well as performing in several countries.  Over the past five-and-a-half years,  la compagnie Virginie Brunelle has performed in Lebanon, Denmark, United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy, as well as numerous venues within Canada.

For their performance in Ottawa, the company will be presenting Complexe des genres, a highly sensual work that demonstrates, once again, that the company is not afraid to explore human desire with profound honesty.

“Virginie has pushed her idiosyncratic approach to explore the poetic yet potent nature of human relationships,” says Levy. “With a stunning ensemble of six men and women, she tenaciously explores the desires and vulnerabilities that come with the search for the self and the pursuit of love.”

La compagnie Virginie Brunelle performs at the NAC from April 3-5.  Tickets start at $30 and showtime is 8 pm on each night.  Note: This performance contains nudity and mature themes.
