If you’re a fan of tasty beer and great (and free) music, then Overflow Brewing Company has what you need, with their Indie Series lineup of concerts!
It’s been a while since I had been to Overflow, so I headed out on Thursday to enjoy and photograph sets from James Leclaire, and Chase Van Dusen, both singer/songwriters from Ottawa.
James Leclaire was up first, joined by bassist Rob Snasdell-Taylor on bass/vocals. Supporting his recent album Come On In, he played a set that was at times quiet and introspective, yet fiery and raucous. With songs that hit the familiar topics of heartbreak, heartache, love and loss, it was well-received by the Overflow crowd.
Next up, was Chase Van Dusen (aka CHASE), who was also supporting a recent release, a four-song EP entitled “Blueprint,” produced by Juno award-winning producer Siegfried Meier. Those who’ve been around the Ottawa music scene long enough might remember Chase as the lead singer/songwriter of the band Benefit of A Doubt. Since then, he’s continued on as CHASE, releasing several EPs. His set included songs throughout his catalogue, including the recent singles, “Cycle” and “Blueprint.”
The true test of any song is whether they can stand on their own–stripped down to basics–without all the studio tricks and glossy production, and both James and Chase delivered the goods on Thursday night.
So if you like music and you like beer, the Indie Series at Overflow is a win/win, as you get to support both a local venue/brewery and indie artists, on one of the best small stages in the city, with great sound and lights to go with it.
The full schedule for the Indie Series is available on the Overflow Brewing Co. website, and you can find James Leclaire and CHASE’s music wherever you stream/buy music.
