The last time Daniel Caesar played a show in Ottawa, there were a little over 100 people in attendance, with an early time slot on a Bluesfest side stage in 2017. This time, however, Caesar’s captivating show in Ottawa on his Superpowers World Tour was on a much bigger stage at the Canadian Tire Centre, but his intimate performance presence remained.
The set was a blend of his classic hits and tracks from his latest album, leaving no fan unsatisfied. The lighting and stage design complemented the mood perfectly, adding an ethereal touch with draped curtains surrounding Caesar to begin the show. Caesar’s band was a well-oiled machine, providing a rich and dynamic backdrop to his vocals.
Taking several acoustic moments on stage by himself, Caesar went through renditions of songs such as “Streetcar” and “Loose.” During his encore of “Get You”, the crowd sang the entire opening verse and chorus at the top of their lungs, with Caesar extending his microphone toward the crowd like a conductor. His performance was a true masterclass in modern R&B, leaving everyone in attendance wanting more.
The Canadian Tire Centre hosted two incredibly unique voices on Tuesday night, as opener Moses Sumney transported the audience with his dynamic range, sounding just as perfect as his albums. When hitting his highs, Sumney sent shivers down the spines of everyone in the audience.
