Originally, Tuesday night was supposed to be the second of a two-day break for the festival. However, when the opportunity arose to bring in two huge names in country right now- that plan was scrapped, and Tuesday turned out to be one of the biggest nights of the festival so far.

Jelly Roll made his way into Canada for the first time ever this past week, performing three shows- the second on the list being Ottawa. The reception for the new country artist of the year at the 2023 CMA’s was massive, as fans turned up in droves from across the east. Jelly Roll did not disappoint, as even those who didn’t know his music got into the singer’s mix of country, rock, and hip hop.

The sunset slot belonged to none other than Shaboozey, who has come out of nowhere in the last few months with a Beyonce collaboration, and more importantly, his release of the current number one song on the Billboard Top 100–and arguably the biggest song in the world right now– “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”. The Virginia-born singer recently dropped his debut album while his stock is at an all time high, and was performing many new songs during his set.

Opening the night was Dax, the Ottawa rapper who has blown up online in recent times. Bringing the energy to a large early crowd, Dax was able to get everyone into the show from the very start of the night.

Even though only one stage may have been running on Tuesday night, the quality of the acts brought in the crowds and was a highly successful night five of Ottawa Bluesfest.

RBC Ottawa Bluesfest runs from July 4-14 at Lebreton Flats, with passes and tickets available here
