Night four of Ottawa Bluesfest was a night for pop, as it showcased artists spanning the last 20 odd years of the genre.
Carly Rae Jepsen immediately had her audience dancing and singing along, having enjoyed great success with her latest album The Loveliest Time. Her set was a perfect blend of nostalgia and new hits. Headlining the night was Maroon 5, as Adam Levine commanded the attention of the crowd with his soaring vocals. A polished performance, with extremely tight musicianship featuring the likes of PJ Morton on keys and guitarist James Valentine, showed the crowd why the group were pop juggernauts across several decades.
Chelsea Cutler brought a change of pace with her soulful indie pop sound, and her performance was a testament to the new age of pop music. Headlining the river stage were Future Islands, injecting a burst of energy as Samuel T. Herring’s impassioned vocals and theatrical and primal- like dance moves mesmerized the crowd during songs like “Seasons (Waiting on You)” and “Ran”.
After a lively first four days of Bluesfest, Monday is a chance to relax and recover as the shows take a break until Tuesday, July 9th.
RBC Ottawa Bluesfest runs from July 4-14 at Lebreton Flats, with passes and tickets available here.
