Picture this: the year is 2017 and you’ve just heard about a new patio that opened in a new location with stunning views. Tavern on the Hill’s opening at Major’s Hill Park provided locals and tourists alike with a spot to grab a drink while enjoying scenic views of Parliament and the Ottawa River. Fast forward to 2024 and there are four new taverns that have opened as part of The Tavern Group: Tavern at the Gallery, Tavern on the Falls, Tavern on the Island, and Tavern at the Lake.

Each location offers a different atmosphere and unique menu items. Tavern at the Lake, located in Gatineau at Lac Leamy, is a family-friendly beachside canteen. Tavern at the Gallery takes advantage of a sunken courtyard beside the National Gallery of Canada and offers a full service menu with seating nestled under a tree canopy. Tavern on the Falls is a great spot to catch a sunset over the Ottawa River while enjoying a view of the Rideau Falls. Tavern on the Island opened this summer on Bates Island and is a popular spot for cyclists and families with ample bike and car parking as well as lawn games, delicious burgers, and stunning water views. Tavern on the Hill recently reopened after a two year closure and has plenty of seating for anyone stopping by for a drink or a gourmet hot dog after exploring the nearby ByWard Market or National Gallery of Canada.

The patios are fully outdoors so open seasonally, but with fire pits and cozy blankets you can extend your visits into the fall. While each of the five patios has different menu offerings, you’ll find a few consistent items: beer, wine, cocktails, and mocktails along with dog and family friendly seating. Live music is offered throughout the week, along with special events such as yoga during the summer at the Tavern at the Gallery, and Oktoberfest celebrations September 21 and 22 at Tavern at the Gallery and September 28 and 29 at Tavern at the Falls.

Follow the taverns on Instagram for the most up-to-date hours: Tavern at the Lake, Tavern at the Gallery, Tavern on the Falls, Tavern on the Island, and Tavern on the Hill. Parking and accessibility varies at each location. Washrooms are available onsite.
