It is often said that youth is wasted on the young. If celebrating prom was wasted on your youth, you’ve got another chance to break out the tux/crinoline this weekend with the 5th annual PROMdemonium. PROMdemonium bills itself as “Ottawa’s radical, community-oriented, gender-bending, bike-loving, enviro-humping, queer-diggin, slow dancing, big dress wearing prom that you never had”.
Our sources report that it’s also a really fun party. Basically, think about this as the prom that you wish you had.
Ottawa’s PROMdemonium is inspired by the people’s prom in Vancouver, and carries the same commitment to social justice and community. The evening features dj yalla yalla, dj meera and dancing lessons from Dance With Alana Studios to help you get your groove on.
It’s going to be a great time — and the price of your ticket goes towards supporting some great causes. Funds from PROMdemonium are supporting Ecology Ottawa, Families of Sisters in Spirit, Campaign for Safer Consumption Sites in Ottawa, the Tool Shed Zine and… Apartment613! (We’re super happy to be getting some help from the folks at PROMdemonium to help us put together a contribution to Nuit Blanche Ottawa 2012 this September.)
PROMdemonium happens this Saturday evening at the National Arts Centre. Tickets are available at Venus Envy and Octopus books. For more information, head over to the PROMdemonium website or Facebook page. You can also listen to our chat with PROMdemonium chair Matthew Pearson on the April 4th edition of Apartment613 Live.
See you on the dance floor!
