If you want to attend a “choose your own art adventure,” read on!
Cirquonscient is a “collective of Ottawa-based circus artists with a desire to promote creative expression and awareness of contemporary cultural and social topics interpretatively through circus and other art forms.” They’re hosting their first-ever art party tomorrow night at Club SAW. “above/below” will showcase various pieces and performances that feature local visual, performance, physical, musical and aerial artists’ unique expressions of the titular theme. Poetry and paintings will be on display, as well as short videos, a one-person physical theatre piece, aerial acrobatics, and live music from DJs Nick Hebb and Peter Albert from the Music.Art.Ppl collective.
In addition to the art created by others, attendees can partake in life drawing (limited supplies available—bring your own paper and pencils) and clay modelling (which you can take home). Refreshments will be available throughout the night. The event is open to all ages; the interactive elements make it perfect for children and families.
This event is a great opportunity to explore the works of talented upcoming artists and immerse yourself in the world of visual and performance art. Club SAW is the perfect location for this event because it is an intimate space with separate areas to enjoy the different artistic mediums.
As part of the “below” theme of the event, The Box of Life, a social enterprise helping to improve local food security and environmental impact by providing composting solutions, will have an info station on site. One of their composters will be available to answer questions about vermicomposting.
