A group of Iranian-Canadians in Ottawa-Gatineau who call themselves “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” (meaning “Woman, Life, Freedom”) are hoping to amplify the voices of Iranian protestors through art and photography with an exhibition at City Hall this weekend titled Call it Revolution, an interdisciplinary art/culture exhibit put together through creative community collaborations.

The exhibition includes a photo gallery covering a timeline of events over the past 43 years since the 1979 revolution in Iran that brought the current regime to power, as well as artwork and a silent performance called “Stronger Together”. The works exhibited are intended to show the roots of the current protest movement and shed light on the gender-based violence that has occurred and continues to occur.

Call it Revolution is timed to coincide with the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, an annual UN Women campaign that begins on Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and continues until International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10. Ottawa’s Woman, Life, Freedom organization is hoping non-Iranian Canadians will join them in witnessing the protests and ensuring these dissenting voices are heard.

Call it Revolution runs from 12-4pm on Saturday, November 26, at Jean Pigott Place inside Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. Admission is free. Content warning: Gender-based violence.
