I’m beginning to think Gabrielle Giguere isn’t a summe person. Her profile photo and her album under the Her Harbour moniker (Winter’s Ghosts) all speak to a colder time of year. It may be fitting that her lush, folky sounds will be heard at the Barney Danson Theatre as opposed to one of the outdoor stages. This is a show I personally don’t want to miss.
Here’s my chat with Her Harbour.
How would you describe your sound?
Dark and textural, indie-folk, vocal & lyric driven, choir arrangements, a blend of traditional instruments (autoharp, slide guitar, piano, etc), household objects (clocks, bells, crystal glasses, music boxes) and vintage keyboards.<
How long have you been playing music, and how has your sound evolved over that time?
I’ve been playing music since a young age though only a year as Her Harbour. My background is in jazz though Her Harbour is far from. Having recently grown to include four other musicians the project has taken on some new influences as well.
What are you hoping to get out of your Bluesfest performance?
A good performance.
Are there any other bands on the bill you’re excited to see?
Many! Sharon Van Etten, Björk, Phosphorescent, B.B. King to name a few.
What’s your ultimate summer drink and why?
Assuming we’re talking spirits, it’s a tie between vodka/cucumber/soda and a dark and stormy (ginger beer/spiced rum).
Here’s a glimpse at Her Harbour’s music. Here, she’s performing at the 4in1 music sessions in May 2012.
Her Harbour plays the Barney Danson Theatre Sunday July 7 at 4:30pm.
