The Ottawa BlackJacks bounced back in a big way on Friday night, securing a commanding 105-83 win over the Brampton Honey Badgers at TD Place. While the final score suggested a dominant display, the game didn’t start that way for Ottawa, who lost their first game of the season.

The Honey Badgers opened the scoring, with Kobe McEwen landing a three-pointer to put the visitors ahead early. They carried that momentum through the first quarter, closing it out with a 25-21 lead. The second quarter was a tight, back-and-forth affair, with Brampton managing to cling to a slim 50-47 lead at the half.
Things began to shift in the third quarter. The BlackJacks leaned into their physicality and size advantage, pushing the pace and finding their rhythm. With three minutes left in the third, Ottawa tied it up at 66-66—and from there, they never looked back. The home team closed the quarter on a 10-2 run, outscoring Brampton heading into the final period with a 78-66 lead.

Ottawa didn’t let up in the fourth, maintaining their aggressive play on both ends of the floor. In contrast to their last outing—where they squandered a lead in a loss to the Niagara River Lions—the BlackJacks kept their foot on the gas, racing to the target score of 105. Deng Adel delivered the final blow, laying it in to seal the win and giving head coach DeAveiro his first CEBL victory.
Next up, the BlackJacks hit the road for the first time this season to face the Montreal Alliance in the league’s first-ever outdoor game at IGA Stadium on May 25. That clash kicked off a grueling stretch of six straight road games before they return home on June 15 to face the Niagara River Lions.
