Blogging Bluesfest 2013: Trevor Alguire

By François Levesque on July 9, 2013

Trevor Alguire may be better known in Nashville than Ottawa. After all, Music Nashville News touted him as having “depth and breadth found in few artists on the current music scene” Alguire, born in the Ottawa Valley (is it me or are there just a huge number of amazing musicians in the Valley?) is playing his fourth Bluesfest. He has traveled the world with his music and we’re lucky to have him play at home. He has beautiful songs and voice and I cannot wait for his  soon-to-be-completed six album.

How would you describe your sound?
Roots/Rock, Americana.

How long have you been playing music, and how has your sound evolved over that time?
Playing music since I was in my mid teens… Louder garage punk bands I’d put together. I then started to really focus on songwriting and putting together an entire album. And with that came my natural progression back to music I was raised on – old school country, folk etc. And here I am now at 5 albums in and 10 years and counting with my 6th album about to be recorded this September.

What are you hoping to get out of your Bluesfest performance? Fans, adoration, festival experience etc?
Just getting my music out to folks one moment, town, festival at a time. Whether it’s in Europe or hear in North America it’s just about building a fan base that appreciates music and keep traveling back to them with new songs.

Are there any other bands on the bill you’re excited to see?
Well I’m opening the evening for Old Man Luedecke and it will be great to share a stage with him.

Who would be your dream artist to open for, and why?
I’ve been fortunate to share the stage with many fellow musicians I respect (Martha Wainwright, Jimmy Rankin, Leeroy Stagger, Danny Michel…. etc.) and just look forward to doing the same. Whether it’s meeting big music fans or meeting good people that write and perform songs like me, I feel fortunate to be able to travel and share my music with those willing to listen.

Trevor Alguire and Ken Voita perform Thirty Year Run.

Trevor Alguire plays the Barney Danson Theatre Thursday, July 11 at 7:30pm.
