The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived! After an interrupted, delayed, and ultimately knock-it-out-of-the-park current Broadway Across Canada (BAC) season at the National Arts Centre, we are finally ready for a new year and a new, hopefully-uninterrupted-by-a-global-pandemic, season of official touring Broadway shows to get pumped about! BAC’s 2023/2024 Ottawa season marks the 25th anniversary in the nation’s capital, and we guarantee fellow Broadway fanatics and casuals alike will not be disappointed.

(Note: There are two still shows left in the current season that you can still purchase tickets for Jagged Little Pill starting May 30 and Hadestown in August.)

Here is the 2023–2024 lineup:

Hairspray (November 14–19, 2023)

Welcome to the ’60s! Based on the John Waters film, Hairspray features 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad, who has a passion for dance and sky-high hair. She is determined to make her way onto Baltimore’s popular TV dance show and push it to integrate. It’s a powerful story highlighting turbulent history that continues to be relevant. With music and lyrics by Broadway favourites Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Catch Me if You Can, Some Like it Hot), you won’t be able to stop your dancing feet as they tap along to hit after hit.

Ain’t Too Proud—The Life and Times of the Temptations (December 26–31, 2023)

Postponed from the previous season, The Temptations are finally hitting Ottawa stages! This musical follows the story of the band’s rise to fame: from how they met, the conflicts and challenges they faced through civil unrest and their marker in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It’s an engaging story following the teetering lines between family, loyalty and betrayal, and audiences are shepherded through the tale with some favourite hits, including “My Girl” and “Just My Imagination.”

Disney’s Frozen (February 22–March 3, 2024)

Disney’s smash hit film is storming Ottawa’s stage! Opening on the new Queen of Arendelle, Elsa’s coronation day doesn’t go quite to plan as a secret she has been hiding suddenly comes to light—leaving Arendelle accidentally iced over. A story of sisterly love, this adventurous tale shows Elsa’s ice powers in action and her journey of self-discovery as she discovers who she is on the inside and the power that love can bring. Whether you’re young or young at heart, get ready to “Let it Go” and fall into the magic of one of Disney’s biggest hits this February.

Six: The Musical (May 21–May 26, 2024)

“Don’t Lose Ur Head” Ottawa: Six is coming to the BAC 2023/2024 season! Six brings together the six wives of Henry VIII live and in concert, where they will regale you with their stories and over 500 years of history. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Original Score, break out your crowns and get ready to spend an evening on your feet because there’s “No Way” you’ll want to miss this one.

Les Misérables (August 6–11, 2024)

Les Misérables is part of the 2023/2024 lineup as a “season option,” a fifth show not included in the four-show season package but available for additional purchase, where subscribers get priority access before tickets open for public sale. Set in 19th-century France, Les Misérables is a story of struggle, love, loss, redemption and revolution. Based on the Victor Hugo novel of the same name, the show is one of the most popular musicals in the world with a famous soundtrack, including songs like “I Dreamed a Dream,” “One Day More,” and “On My Own.”

We can’t wait for this new and exciting season! Want to dive in and prepare? Find some of our favourite tunes on our 2023/2024 BAC playlist!
