Two cheerful, energetic mimes love to dance to the music of a quirky accordionist and all is happy in the world… until an unsuspecting tree comes to life with the music and shakes things up. Everything is said through music and dance in this funny little play that shows how overcoming your fears can lead to happiness. When the mimes learn to dance with the tree, the balance is restored and everyone is happy again.
It was a beautiful evening to see this play on Tabaret Lawn, and a welcome change from a stuffy indoor theatre. The mimes were already in character when I arrived. They greeted me with a handshake and even gave me a special seat to sit on at the front of the stage. I liked that the play was minimalist from the set to the lack of dialogue because the storyline and personalities of the characters were well portrayed through expression. They even danced to “The Real Slim Shady”, which was fitting for the tree. It’s hard to think of something I didn’t like about this play because it was just what it was meant to be an no more – lighthearted, fun, and simple.
At the end the actors had everyone in the audience stand up and hold hands to dance around in a formed circle. To me it was a story about living with each other in unison with nature, and that’s exactly how I felt at that moment.
