Have you ever thought about how far your single long espresso, your vanilla latte, or your large medium in an extra large cup has to travel before the barista passes it to you over the bar each morning?
At Bridgehead, a sense of connection has always been encouraged, between the coffee lover and the farms where their coffee comes from. Committed to more than just high quality coffee – they are conscientious of their impact on the environment, support small-scale farmers, and embrace Fair-Trade Certified and organic certified products.
This Thursday, July 17th, in order to help foster that sense of connection, Bridgehead has arranged for an Ottawa screening of A Film about Coffee. Coffee enthusiasts can check out the Canadian premiere of the documentary, which details the journey of specialty coffee – from coffee farms, in places like Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua, to coffee shops around the world, such as Bridgehead here in Ottawa.
A Film about Coffee is beautifully shot, which one can glean from watching the documentary’s trailer. Directed by Brandon Loper, it is a stunning ode to coffee and all the people behind the much loved beverage. He too believes in connecting those who drink coffee with those who produce it. “Coffee is about people, and people are what I am interested in ultimately” says Loper.
Proceeds from the screening of the film are going to the Carlos Fonseca Cooperative in San Juan del Rio Coco, Nicaragua, to buy softball equipment for their softball team. San Juan del Rio Coco is comprised of eight cooperatives, which are home to 370 coffee producers, from whom Bridgehead began buying coffee from In 2013.
You can order a ticket to the screening online through their Eventbrite page, or you can pick up a ticket, along with your morning coffee, at any Bridgehead location in the city. The screening, being held at the Mayfair Theatre (1074 Bank Street), begins at 7:30pm (doors at 7pm). The Bridgehead sourcing and roasting team will be available for a question and answer period following the screening. Bridgehead will be serving their newly released Cold Brew carbonated coffee at the event.
