This past weekend, Ottawa’s Paul Dewar bowed out of the NDP leadership race after receiving 7.5% in the first round of voting at the NDP Leadership Convention. Thomas Mulcair is the new leader of the NDP, after receiving 57.2% of the final ballot on March 24.
OCTranspo data has been set free and an app has been released, but OCTranspo’s warning has been proven right: the data’s not always reliable. Some GPS data is forwarded several minutes late, which has caused some frustration among users of the new app called MyTransit. The transit service is working on getting more reliable data.
On another open data front, the citizens of Gatineau are also building apps using the data the city’s began releasing.
Taxi drivers have been falling on tough economic times and have pleaded to the city to change some of the bilaws which guide their work. These changes have now been implemented, including allowing drivers to keep their vehicles on the road for eight years instead of seven, and allowing replacement vehicles to be as much as five years old when they’re brought into service. The city committee also agreed to allow for annual instead of twice-a-year inspections for vehicles newer than five years. At the Citizen, Joanne Chianello’s getting worried on the city’s decision-making process and believes citizens should be consulted more, and in the right way.
