As we blow past the middle of April, the springtime clothing swaps, wine & food shows and all ages events begin again. This weekend holds its usual eclectic array of music and family fun, with a few things like fan fiction readings, burlesque shows and an Aboriginal arts fundraiser thrown in for variety.

Friday afternoon the Bridgehead on Bank and Gilmour is home base for the International Anti-Street Harassment Week put on by Hollaback! Ottawa at 3pm. They’re joining the movement to Stop Telling Women To Smile with a postering and chalking event. The School of Photographic Arts is holding its Vernissage for the SPAO Diploma students from 3-9pm. This marks the 10th exhibition for students of the institution and includes pieces that embody the school’s Vision, Content, Craft motto.

Also on Friday night, Ottawa Showbox presents Beef Boys, Moon Destroyer and The Boreds at Mugshots for a smattering of surf, garage and psych rock with Kyle Woods spinning records in between. Arboretum Festival hosts Michael Feuerstack at St. Albans Anglican Church with the Forward Music Revue, Paper Beats Scissors, Gianna Lauren and Find The Others. Also, Raw Sugar Cafe is having a Record Swap where you can bring your own swappable platters or just take home some free records. The event is free and bartering only for records! Gallery 101 is also hosting the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective’s fundraiser for Aboriginal Arts starting at 7pm.

Both Friday and Saturday, the Springtime Food and Wine Show is on at the EY centre. Typically a hit, this one will include food trucks, cold comfort foods and beers. The Canadian Museum of Nature is holding a panel discussion on the changing landscape of the Arctic, and includes food and drink as part of the evening alongside live Kayak building and other cultural performances.

Saturday evening the Record Centre presents the Hilotrons – a primer for their upcoming Blacksheep Inn performance on May 1st. Vertigo Records welcomes Flying Fortress for a free and all ages event. Mugshots is having a free Live Jazz evening promising to play the likes of Miles Davis, Jimmy Smith and more. La Petit Chicago gets funky with Afrodizz at 9pm just over the border, and will be pumping out some jazz, afrobeat and funk music until 2am.

On Sunday the Shaw Centre is having the Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show where vendors from Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa gather with the finest of vintage gear for sale and negotiation. The Bronson Centre hosts Suicide Girls: Blackhearts Burlesque with a performance by Sin Sisters. Morning Person Theatre is having their Sunday Night Fan Fiction at Lunenburg at 8pm for some hilarious stand up performers belting out the most epic and cringeworthy fan fiction that exists on the internet. Stop by here if you need a laugh, or to check that no one has found that Dr. Who love poem you wrote (Oh yes, we know all about it).

All weekend long enjoy Originals – The Spring Craft Sale happening at the EY Centre starting today. Over 180 artisans from across Canada will be onsite to showcase and sell their handmade items. To help you get in, Apt613 has four pairs of tickets to giveaway. Just send an email with the subject header “Originals” to apartment613@gmail.com. We’ll pick the winners by random draw on Friday, April 16 at noon.

So eat, drink and be merry Friday through Sunday, and make sure to hashtag any pictures from the weekend with #apt613wknd. We’ll repost the best ones and give the city a glance at the fun!
