Support Local is all about building community. Whether it’s a record swap featuring local artists or small batches of goods presented at a local jewellery shop, Support Local’s creative, collaborative events are all set on making things together.
This year, we at Apartment613 decided to take Support Local a bit beyond the usual locales, and bring it out to Almonte for a day of supporting and celebrating the wider collaborations that exist across the region. Patio parties and pop-up shops are just a couple of the things we’ve got planned for the day.
Sure, if you don’t have a car, Almonte seems a wee bit far away. We’ve solved that problem, though: the Town of Mississippi Mills will have a couple of shuttles on hand to get you to and from Almonte, with plenty of time to explore the goings on. Get your tickets here – and, if you buy a $15 return trip ticket within the next week, you’ll get a $10 coupon to use on food, drinks or goods in Almonte.
So why Almonte? We asked Karen Diepeveen, coordinator of Support Local month, why the expansion beyond the usual boundaries. “They’ve got a great community spirit,” she said. “That community spirit mirrors what we see here in Ottawa, and Support Local gave us the perfect excuse to work together. Their local shops, musicians and businesses were into it from the beginning. It’s going to be an exciting day of music, art, crafts, shops and food.”
We’ve got a complete listing of events below, and be sure to check out some special Support Local shopping deals that are happening throughout the month.
