The annual Ottawa Fashion Week is back for its fifth year this weekend (Sept. 13-15) showcasing the top Canadian designers and their runway pieces for Spring and Summer 2014.
Having first come onto the scene as a platform for Fall/Winter 2009 collections, Ottawa Fashion Week has established itself as a regular venue for designers to present their collections and bring fashion to the arts community.
As the event grows stronger with each season, more designers Canada and beyond have signed up to make the trip to Ottawa – with a total of 21 designers booked to showcase over the three-day event.
Wanting a designer whose brand was born in our beautiful capital? Rachel Sin will be returning for her sixth season with OFW. Now based in Toronto, the trained architect turned fashion designer has an eye for detail and precise tailoring.
Trying to find a fashion week favourite? Jana & Emilia Fashion Design Studio has yet to miss a season. Based in Ottawa, the designers work on a client-to-client basis creating unique pieces tailored to individual figures, styles and lifestyle.
Looking for University of Ottawa alum? Try out Nora Zabarah Pucci’s line Zarucci. Embroidered evening gowns, sweetheart necklines and fluid draping are staples of her work as she wishes to embrace the female shape in her designs.
Fashion lovers will also get a change of scenery this year. The event – which has been held in downtown venues since it began in 2008 – will now be taken across the bridge to Hilton Lac-Leamy. Past venues include the Westin, National Gallery and the Ottawa Convention Centre.
