From intimate indie rock shows to electrifying rap performances and soul-stirring jazz ensembles, this month has it all. So grab your friends and let the music be the soundtrack to your unforgettable summer adventures.

June 8 — Ottawa Pocket Jazz Band and Floyd Hutchinson at Lavender Grill & Lounge

Indulge in an enchanting night at Lavender Grill & Lounge as the smooth sounds of live jazz transport you to a world of musical bliss. Get ready to be mesmerized by the extraordinary talent of the Ottawa Pocket Jazz Band, who effortlessly navigates the realms of jazz from the early swing-band era to contemporary hits and even a sprinkle of funky grooves for added delight.

June 10 — Pique: Summer Edition at Arts Court

Check out the largest edition of Pique yet, with three celebrations occurring during the event—Debaser’s 10th anniversary, SAW’s 50th anniversary and the return of the Arts Court Open House Party. Prepare for groundbreaking performances, captivating art exhibitions, thought-provoking screenings, and engaging workshops. With 30 talented artists, ten dynamic stages, and more, the event is a must-go. And for the first time at Pique, live music returns to the neighbouring Ottawa Jail Hostel, where Debaser had its inaugural show a decade ago. Admission is pay-what-you-can, with a suggested contribution of $25-$50. The event features acclaimed artists such as Lido Pimienta, Bear Witness, colloboh, and many others.

June 11 — Impromptus 2023 at Centre d’Exposition L’Imagier

Discover the highly anticipated return of the Impromptus music series: five unforgettable concerts in the scenic Parc de L’Imaginaire, presented by L’Imagier in collaboration with Pearly Media. The series includes extraordinary musicians, singers, and bands from different cultural backgrounds, celebrating the richness of BIPOC communities’ musical traditions: Aspects & Illiyah Rose, Paula C, Zoo Legacy, Jessie Simmons, and Izzy Rose.

First up in the series are Aspects & Illiyah Rose, a father-daughter duo. Aspects, Ottawa’s hip-hop troubadour, brings out a magnetic performance that resonates with any crowd, from hardcore rap enthusiasts to lively biker rallies and even groove-loving hippie moms. His daughter, Illiyah Rose, is making waves with her mesmerizing harmonies and talent.

June 14 — Scott Kelly and the Dynamics at Parkdale Market

Scott Kelly and the Dynamics, an alternative rock band from Ottawa will play an outdoor concert on the MacLeod stage at the Parkdale Market. From original compositions to captivating cover performances, the band has crafted a unique and refreshing sound. There will also be a tribute to the late great Tina Turner. This one is for the whole family—don’t miss out.

June 16 — Ivytide. with De Flore at The 27 Club

Don’t miss out on the captivating indie pop sounds of ivytide., an exciting band from Montreal crafting lo-fi indie music with intricate melodies and thoughtful instrumentation. Catch their tour stop in Ottawa, performing old and new releases like “Flood Lines,” which beautifully captures the sense of innocence at the end of a recent relationship. They will be supported by Hawkesbury duo De Flore, whose French bedroom pop will have you seduced and in a groove.

June 17 — Gulfer, Valleyheart, Guest Room Status, just fine at Rainbow Bistro

Get ready to be blown away by Gulfer, an explosive and dynamic quartet from Montreal. Their music features honest and vulnerable lyricism delivered with a punkish, emo edge, complemented by impressive guitar work. The bill includes Valleyheart, a cinematic alternative rock group with layered lyrical eloquence and dynamic vocals. Local favourites, Guest Room Status and just fine will also join the party, so don’t miss out.

June 17 — Witch Prophet at NAC Fourth Stage

After captivating audiences with her Polaris Prize-shortlisted album “DNA Activation,” which beautifully merged jazz, hip hop, soul, and R&B, Witch Prophet is back and ready to shake the room! Since her last drop, she has toured across North America, sharing the stage with incredible artists like Lido Pimienta, Sudan Archives, Tash Sultana, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, and many more. Her new offering Gateway Experience combines jazzed-out neo-soul and ’90s trip-hop while looking into her mind, touching on themes of health, spirituality, and human connection, her independent career, and the undervaluation of Black music in the Canadian music industry.

June 17 — Afroman at Brass Monkey

Known for his iconic hits and infectious energy, Afroman is set to deliver an unforgettable performance that will have you grooving all night! With his unique blend of rap, humour, and laid-back vibes, Afroman’s music transcends genres and brings people together on the dance floor. A lot of facing is about to happen at this concert.

June 20 — Amanda Marshall with Sophia Fracassi at NAC Southam Hall

Diamond-selling multi-Juno Award-nominated singer-songwriter Amanda Marshall will grace the stages of the NAC as she is about to drop her album Heavy Lifting this summer, showcasing her soulful voice and captivating lyrics. She’ll be joined by special guest Sophia Fracassi, a rising star named KiSS Radio’s “One to Watch” for February and March of 2023.

June 24 — A Boogie Wit da Hoodie with Mariah the Scientist at Canadian Tire Centre

One of this generation’s voices of melodic rap, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie will perform alongside Mariah the Scientist. A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, known for his smooth flow and infectious beats, has been dominating the streets with recent hits like “Take Shots” and “Secrets,” meanwhile soulful and angelic Mariah the Scientist will showcase her undeniable presence on the mic.
