“Hail hail rock ‘n’ roll!” was Luke Bentham’s proclamation from the moment The Dirty Nil took the stage. And the three-piece Hamilton, Ontario band stayed true to their word on what was a heavy, pummelling night of music. Their opening song, “Celebration,” set the tone for the evening with thunderous guitar riffs and Bentham’s gritty, impassioned vocals.
Throughout the night, the band’s energy was relentless, jumping as high as the amplifiers behind them, and routinely standing on the edge of the stage to be closer to the fans. “Blunt Force Concussion” and “Free Rein to Passions” had the crowd in a frenzy, mosh pits erupting, and fans singing along at the top of their lungs. Ending their show as per usual with their signature cover of “Hit the Lights” by Metallica, the circle pits came to life one last time to cap off a great night of rock in the capital.
Dead Tired could have headlined a show in Ottawa themselves, featuring members of Alexisonfire and Born Wrong. Fronted by the charismatic George Pettit, the band brought their signature blend of hardcore punk and ferocious energy to the stage.
Opening the night was London, Ontario’s Mvll Crimes, led by Jillian Clair alongside the group’s distorted bass lines and massive drums.
