The Bronson Centre Music Theatre atmosphere on Saturday night was electrifying as Portugal. The Man took the stage, captivating the audience with their unique blend of indie rock and psychedelic vibes. The band kicked off the night with an explosive opening that set the tone for the entire concert, with a mix of Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” Slayer’s “South of Heaven,” and Pantera’s “Cowboys from Hell.”
The mix of vocals from the entire band provided a set of diverse sounds and harmonies. The band matched their eclectic sound with one of the most impressive light shows at the Bronson Centre.
Before the band took to the stage, two members of the Algonquin Anishinabe were invited to begin with a song.
The setlist was a well-curated journey through Portugal. The Man’s discography features fan favourites like “Feel It Still” and newer tracks like “Dummy” that showcase their evolving sound. Portugal. The Man’s ability to engage the audience and create a sense of unity was a testament to their stage presence and connection with their fans.
On their first-ever Canadian tour, Toronto’s Good Kid opened the night. Nick Frosst, the band’s lead vocalist, is from Ottawa and was stoked to finally be playing again in his hometown, shouting out his mom, who had come to the show in support, midway through the set.
