We are giving away a pair of tickets for this Friday’s concert at the NAC by Jessica Linnebach. To enter, please email Apartment613 by noon Thursday, January 29, with the Subject line “Casual Friday NAC.” The winner will be notified on Thursday afternoon.
Classical music can sometimes seem like a stuffy pastime.
In reality, however, listening to the classical masters can be a lovely and relaxing experience. Throw in some food and wine and things can get really cool.
Cut to this week’s concerts by violinist and NAC Orchestra associate concertmaster Jessica Linnebach, who will be performing Bartók’s Divertimento for String Orchestra, as well as the fantastic Summer and Winter movements of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, at the National Arts Centre.
The first show takes place this coming Thursday, January 29, at 8 pm while the second is on Friday, January 30, at 7 pm.
The second show is of particular note, as it is part of the NAC’s Casual Friday series. It will be hosted by Canadian rockstar and trained violinist Sam Roberts.
Friday should prove to be a special night, as both Linnebach and Roberts have only nice things to say about each other.
“Anyone in Canada who plays violin knows Jessica,” Roberts recently said in a radio interview.
For her part, Linnebach also praised Roberts. “It’s a dream that we got him – that he agreed to come and host because he’s so famous,” Linnebach said in a recent newspaper story. “He’s a rock star.”
Prior to Friday’s show there will be a culinary overture worth $20. Unfortunately, this is sold out.
However, because of the overwhelming success of this series, NAC Executive Chef John Morris has decided to sell nibbles and special small dishes by the plate a-la-carte. While it will not be the all you can eat experience of the culinary overture deal, it will offer an opportunity to sample tasty treats.
As well, Friday’s concert tickets – which start at $25 – includes a complimentary glass of fine wine or non-alcoholic beverage. Live jazz will start at 5 pm when the bar opens and the food starts.
