Monday November 11th is Remembrance Day, and there are commemorations and celebrations around the city.  Friday November 8 is Indigenous Veteran’s Day, and while there is no municipal ceremony being held, the National Aboriginal Veteran’s Monument is located at 100 Elgin Street in Confederation Park.

OC Transpo service is free for all veterans and service people wearing medals or uniforms during Veteran’s Week beginning November 5.

On November 11 expect road closures and detours downtown beginning at 7am. Elgin St, Rideau St, Wellington St, Queen St, Albert St, Colonel By Drive, Mackenzie Ave, and Sussex Drive will all be subject to closures until 1pm for the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at the War Memorial.

Thousands of poppies representing fallen Canadian veterans are projected onto the Peace Tower and onto the Senate of Canada Building between 6:30 and 9:30pm starting this week. On November 5, 10, and 11, the display will extend to midnight.

Virtual poppies will also cascade down the National Art Centre’s Kipnes Lantern on November 11, from 7:00 am to midnight.
