On Friday night, Switchfoot celebrated the twentieth anniversary of their hit album, The Beautiful Letdown with a packed house at the Bronson Theatre. I grew up on Switchfoot, first seeing a video of the band walking around an abandoned hotel in the song “New Way to be Human” as my introduction to the group in 1999.

The last time I saw Switchfoot was in 2012 along with 30,000 other fans at a festival in the States. Last night at the Bronson Theatre was a completely different experience, an intimate show with plenty of power behind it. The band went through The Beautiful Letdown album, including hits such as “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move.” For an encore, Switchfoot went into their catalogue of albums, with anthems such as “Dark Horses” and “Oh! Gravity.”

Jon Foreman spent about as much time on stage as he did in the crowd, jumping in to sing and greet fans. He even made his way up to the Bronson balcony, getting the entire crowd to do a chorus of “Stars” together. You could tell how much the band’s music meant to fans, with tears galore throughout the set.

When you thought the night was over, frontman Jon Foreman announced he would be playing an aftershow outside the venue shortly after the set ended. With an acoustic guitar and his voice, Foreman led the dedicated crowd through several solo songs and a couple Switchfoot tracks.
