It was an energy-fuelled start to the weekend, as Rise Against headlined night three of CityFolk in commanding fashion. Kicking off the set with a megaphone in hand, Tim McIlrath led the crowd through choruses and even jumped in to let the fans sing on in the night. Ending the evening with their 2008 massive hit “Savior,” along with other classics like “Prayer of the Refugee,” the band showed they were still at the top of their game.

Explosions in the Sky were an auditory and visual experience, with droning guitars and massive amounts of smoke coming from the stage. Swedish rock outfit Soen opened up the night with a lively set, and were probably the closest to metal the fest has ever seen.

At the tent stage, Cat Power drew a large crowd for her Dylan ’66 show, with a stage full of instruments and a large backing band. Kellie Loder brought their Newfie charm, as the banter with the crowd started early. Amanda Lowe Warnakulasuriya played an intimate opening set full of haunting melodies. Cinno provided the only hip hop of the festival outside of the Aberdeen Pavillion, which had those going to the festival and restaurant-goers vibing to the music all down the street.
