Laura and Samara spend their days as non-profit unicorns and fill every spare minute exploring the world of musical theatre as BFFs (that’s Broadway Friends Forever).
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is playing a short run at Meridian Centrepointe Theatres this weekend and should be a great show to catch! With all your favourite characters from the classic cartoon and memorable songs made famous by its Broadway run—which was nominated for four Tony awards and won two—it’s sure to bring a smile to your face and quite a few laughs.
The 1999 revival added three new songs to the score from composer and lyricist Andrew Lippa (known for The Wild Party, The Addams Family and Big Fish). The show also had some now well known names in it’s 1999 run, including Anthony Rapp (Rent, If/Then) and Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked, Promises, Promises) who won her first Tony, for best featured actress in a musical, for her role of Sally Brown.
The show takes us through a day in the life of Charlie Brown, much like you remember from watching the cartoon or seeing the comic strips. A simple story with a simple message, but heartwarming and fun all the same.
With all your childhood favourite characters, an introverted Charlie Brown, an antagonistic Lucy, the musically inclined Schroeder, sweet and innocent Sally, the imaginative Snoopy and of course Linus and his blanket, be prepared for a heart warming blast from the past.
Presented by Misty Banyard Studios, this production features a small but talented local cast—some of whom you might recognize if you’ve been to other shows in Ottawa. The cast includes Tara St. Pierre as Snoopy, Jennie Smith as Sally for matinee performances, and Emily Green as Charlie Brown. Elli McKean, whom you may recall from Scary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Anne of Green Gables, will play Sally during evening performances. Orpheus Musical Theatre alumna Andrea Kingsley will play Schroeder at evening performances. A few more young and new cast members will make up the rest of the characters and we look forward to their performances.
