The new year is well underway, and if you resolved to have more fun, you’re in luck. We’re kicking things off tonight with the Unreasonable Variety Show at Pressed, featuring comedians and musicians. Or, if dueling future rock stars is more your style, head to the weekly battle of the bands down at the Lunenburg Pub.

Friday night is the second edition of the Freshly Chopped Supper Club at Grounded – this time, they’re channeling Detroit and serving up a menu of soul food and music. Yamantaka//Sonic Titan will be at Zaphod’s for an earlier show – you can continue your dancing over at Kitchen Party later that night. Get your craft on and reward yourself for not breaking any resolutions so far with Spins and Needles’ Everyone’s a winner edition.

On Saturday, Babylon’s Electric Pow Wow will keep you moving, despite any chilly weather. Across the river, The Woodshed Orchestra and The Gertrudes will be at the Black Sheep, playing some of the best folk-estra music around. Old Stereo is releasing a new album down at Irene’s that evening as well, with a few special guests on hand to celebrate, while Moon King and Fucked Up stop by Ritual. In the art world, the Centre d’artistes Voix Visuelle down on Beechwood is hosting a vernissage for the work of three artists.

Sunday is a bit quieter: Jon Reilly Roe will host an open mic down at the Hintonburg Public House – go show off your musical talents! And out at the Black Sheep, Shannon Rose and the Thorns will host a cd release party and play a few tunes from the new album, Seasons. You can also meet the artists from the Same but Different II show, which opens a few days before on Thursday night.

What else is going on, Ottawa? Heading out tobogganing? Searching out the best hot chocolate in town? Let us know below!
