Need a winter getaway this weekend? Read on to find out how you can escape to Wakefield for a show and overnight stay!
First, though, a bit of music closer to home. If you missed Josef Mieto a few weeks back, you can catch his folky sounds tonight at Maxwells, where he’ll be joined by James Leclaire and Ray Harris. Also tonight, you’ll find DJ Nu-Mark at Babylon as part of his 7″ of Pleasure tour – his night of all 45 vinyls will feature a big lineup of other talent. Friday, indie pop rockers Running Red Lights are at The Daily Grind, while Club Saw has a great indie punk lineup featuring Balance and Composure, Sparrows, and Old Rules. Winnipeg-born Rayannah stops by Raw Sugar Friday, bringing some warm R&B jazz mixes to the stage.
Saturday is the big night in Wakefield, with the Winter Warm Up DJ Showcase at the Black Sheep. Some of the best local talent will be on hand to keep the party going – and if you don’t want to head back home at the end of the night, you’re in luck! We’re giving away two tickets to the show, and a night’s stay at Auberge de Mon Petit Chum (which is just an 8 minute stumble from the Sheep). A gourmet breakfast is included, too. All you have to do to enter is send us an email at apartment613 [at] gmail.com, with the answer to this question: At what festival did all of the Winter Warm Up artists play in 2013? The contest ends Thursday at midnight, so get your answer in now!
The Dusty Owl Reading Series continues, with Christian McPherson reading from his novel Cube Squared down at Mugshots. Capital Slam is also back, with Britta B featured at the Mercury Lounge. If you’re looking for a few new tomes to tackle, head to the Library Friends Mini-Mammoth used book sale on Saturday.
Looking for some fighting action this weekend? Beaver Boxing Club is hosting another Fight Night in Little Italy, with 12 bouts of amateur boxing all set to go down.
