Welcome to the August long weekend. For those of you not escaping the heat at a cottage, or off camping, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourselves here in this fine city.

There are dance parties every night this weekend. Open Air Social Club kicks off the weekend with DJs Sarita and Shooting Blanks on Thursday night. DJ Magnificent brings you Double Barrel, with the Gaff, at Mercury Lounge on Friday night. VJ Daisy is hosting an Outdoor Electronic Music Festival on Saturday night at Parc des Portageurs. Join SPOOR w/ SIAN x Woerks x Mat Thibault for a night of heavy techno at the Mercury Lounge on Sunday night – or, head over to MOD Night at Babylon. The best part is, thanks to the extra day off, you’ll have time to rest up before the work week begins!

There is also a lot of music happening this weekend, in Ottawa. The Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival continues through the weekend and into next week. The Boxcar Boys play back-to-back nights of jazz, meets folk, meets country on Friday & Saturday night. Additionally, Kid Koala presents a multidisciplinary adaptation of his graphic novel Nufonia Must Fall this Friday & Saturday. For more fest events, check out their website. In addition to Chamberfest, Craig Cardiff will be playing an early show LIVE! on Elgin this Friday night. On Saturday, So Sorry Records celebrate their first release with Mystic by Owen Davies. He’ll perform at the Blacksheep Inn, joined by Bosveld and High Waters. Treasure Dub Quartet hold their debut concert at the Record Centre on Sunday.

Capital Ribfest begins this Thursday and runs through the long weekend. Head down to Festival Plaza at City Hall and take your pick of delicious ribs from 6 expert ribbers. If the ribs weren’t enough, there will also be chicken, pizza, french fries, roast corn, and plenty of sweet treats to snack on. After your meal, head over to Sparks Street for some live entertainment, at the Ottawa International Buskerfest. The street will be chock-full of performers – from escapists, to acrobats, to fire eaters, and more – all weekend long.

Jackpine’s third installment of Shoufen, featuring Marc Adornato, takes place this Friday in Chinatown. Shoufen is a monthly series of talks by creative types, in and around Ottawa. Marc will talk a bit about his career as an artist, as well as engage us in an interactive, collaborative, presentation of his current body of work.

Street Eats is being served up this Saturday at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum. Fill up on delicious grub from Ad Mare Seafood, Bytown Bayou, Angry Dragonz, and more and wash it down with refreshing beer from Beau’s, Big Rig, and Mill St. While you’re there, why not check out the museum – the cost of admission is included with your entrance to Street Eats!

The perfect pairing of comedy and music happens Sunday night at Raw Sugar.  Come out and enjoy a little music and a lot of laughs with Ottawa’s favourite funnymen, Greg Houston and Randy Hogg, at Brew-Ha-Ha, a monthly comedy and open mic night.

Whether in town or away this weekend, we hope it is an awesome time. Be sure to take some photos and throw ‘em up on Instagram. We will post some of the best shots on our Instagram feed next week.
