Weekend Roundup: Quoi faire ?

Watch out Ottawa, it’s time for Canada’s biggest marathon weekend. Whether this means you’re running, cheering or navigating road closures, the city comes alive with runners from around the world. Enjoy the atmosphere, not to mention everything else happening this jam-packed weekend!

All Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, runners of all ages and abilities will be taking to the streets. Get all the details on the Run Ottawa website or follow on social media @ottawamarathon. From Thursday through Saturday, all are welcome to visit the Health and Fitness Expo at the Shaw Centre.

The Latin American Film Festival continues with screenings this weekend at the Ottawa Art Gallery. Get all the details in our preview here and then buy your tickets online.


There’s a new weekly comedy event starting this Thursday at Beerocracy, called Centretown Comedy. Quality laughs and great beer. What more could you ask for?

This Thursday, the Young Professionals Network of the Ottawa Mission Foundation will be inaugurating its first official event at Craft Beer Market. The spring social and mixer will be an opportunity to present the network, get a pulse of fellow millennials’ community involvement and recruit members.


The Happening kicks off tonight at Vimy Brewing Co, with events taking place until June 2. Get the run down of all the events online.

Awesome Arts is a community engaged program that allows participants of all ages to explore issues important to their community through the arts. On Friday, the Awesome Arts Festival will bring the Lowertown community together for an evening of celebration during which the participants share their creations. All are welcome between 6-9pm at Patro d’Ottawa.


Set your alarm and be ready to get up early for the best finds at the Great Glebe Garage Sale. This community event has been taking place since 1986 and is not only a giant garage sale, but is also a fundraiser for the Ottawa Food Bank as the Glebe Community Association has encouraged everyone to voluntarily donate some of their proceeds.

The Brewery Market’s season opener takes place this Saturday at Hintonburg Park. The free, family friendly event happens rain or shine and features a great lineup of local and visiting breweries.

While you’re at the park, wander on down to the Hintonburg Public House at 2pm to pick up your art scavenger hunt list. Find and appreciate the awesome art pieces throughout Wellington West on the list. First person back with a picture of each art piece wins a prize pack! The scavenger hunt is one of many events taking place during The Happening.

Movie buff? Capital Pop-Up Cinema is kicking off their 2018 season with Pitch Perfect on Sparks Street. Bring your own chairs and blankets or rent an inflatable couch for $5. Popcorn is $2. The movie will start around dusk, at 8:30.

Capital Rap Battles is back with CRB7: SAUCE. For SAUCE, CRB is bringing some of the world’s top battle rap talent to Ottawa. Read our interview with co-founder Patrick McCormack here and then get ready for seven hard hitting rap battles, two live hip-hop music performances and a DJ providing the musical backdrop.


Girls+ Rock Ottawa has organized a Gig Planning 101 workshop in partnership with local women-powered show production organization Debaser to help take ineuqliaty in the music industry. Get your ticket online here.

What’s better than a cold beer on a hot day? When that beer helps support support young people in discovering and creating their best possible selves. Waller Street Brewing will be serving flights with partial proceeds being donated to the Compass Centre for Self-Directed Learning.
