Halloweekend Roundup: Quoi faire ?

By Amanda Armstrong on October 26, 2017

The wait is over, boys and ghouls – welcome to the most spooktacular weekend of the year, the one and only Halloweekend. This one is so full of things to do, it’s scary. To help you decide, we’ve presented you with a list of highlights below. Be sure to plan ahead, pack those costume changes, and get ready for a weekend full of fun!

All Weekend

This weekend marks one of the final weekends to check out Mìwàte, a spectacular sound and light show at the Chaudière Falls. This tribute to our Indigenous people runs in a continuous loop, requiring roughly 50 minutes to view from start to finish, each evening from 6:30-10pm.

If you have access to a car and don’t mind a bit of a drive, a one-of-a-kind experience lies just outside the city limits. About 7000 carved pumpkins make up the incredible Pumpkin Inferno display at Upper Canada Village. The wait for parking might be lengthy, but if you don’t make it out this weekend, you will have to wait another year for your chance to see it again.

Enriched Bread Artists is celebrating 25 years with their annual open house this weekend. Come check out the studios of over 20 different artists who make their creative space in the old bakery and view EBA’s assortment of cakes – made of all kinds of things other than cake, including copper wire, butter wrappers, and sponges.

Fans of contemporary dance, rejoice – the Face2Face series returns after a year long hiatus! There are several shows taking place in a variety of venues in the downtown core. You can find a full schedule of the events here.

The Dark Child comic release is happening just across the bridge tonight, at Cegep Heritage College in Gatineau. If you’re curious as to what Dark Child is all about, Apt613 spoke with Wilson Guillaume about the comic – you can read about it here.

Fall is the perfect time to don that black and red flannel. Head on over to Lansdowne this Friday night and support our favourite Redblacks. It’s been a great year – come witness them play for the top spot in the Eastern Division, in this final game of the season.

We’ve no short supply of Halloween dance parties tonight, so we’ve made a succinct list of those you will want to check out.

There’s a Halloween Bash at Tooth and Nail Brewery with DJs Hobo and SweetCheeks. There are no advance tickets to the event and entry is $5 at the door. Be sure to arrive early, as this event always sells out!

Bangarang Halloween Edition is happening at Happy Goat Coffee. Joining DJs Magnificent and Longshot on the decks are special guest DJs Boss Chops and Bjorn Late.

There is also Nightmare in the Courtyard, brought the us by CKCU and Oz Kafe. Don your best costume and head down to the market to check out Oz’s new location and dance the night away. There will be local DJs, tarot reading, and prizes for the best costume.

Aaand, if that was not enough, we’ve the Annual Witches’ Gathering at the Rideau Curling Club; Halloween Special at Black Squirrel Books, featuring the Full Groove, Zattar; and DJ Hyf and the Great Pumpkin Charity Ball at St. Brigid’s.

You’ll want to stay at Art House Cafe all day today, with their line up of Halloween themed fun. Join Terra Velta at the Art House Cafe this Sunday and learn of an exciting new use for those left over beer cans. Come have a drink and make a beer can planter for your brand new baby succulent. The cost of the supplies (including your beer!) are covered in the cost of the event.

Stick around for the Night of the Occult: Psychic Readings and Halloween Market, beginning later the same eve. You can have your tarot cards read and pick up some Halloween tchotchkes, to help celebrate the impending Samhain.

Well folks, that’s a wrap! We hope you have a fabulous weekend of festivities ahead. Have fun, stay safe, and take lots of photos. Hashtag your favourites with #apt613wknd for a chance to be featured on our feed.

Halloween 80s au Petit Chicago // Halloween At Funeral Home // Halloween Freak Out // Chicago House on Haunted Hill // Bangarang Halloween Party // Halloween Bash 2017 // Deep Therapy : Halloween in a Warehouse // 8e édition du Rockalily Burlesque’s Annual Zombie Strippers Halloween Show
