Weekend Roundup: Quoi faire ?

By Amanda Armstrong on October 24, 2019

Happy Halloweekend, folks! It’s time to don that perfect costume and hit the town! There are plenty of frightfully fun things to do out and about on this spooktacular weekend, so we will get right to it.

All Weekend

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany will be hosting Bauhaus100 (re)imagined at the Ottawa Art Gallery this weekend. Immerse yourself in Bauhaus with this exhibit, which is equal parts photography, furniture design, and virtual reality.

The Inside Out Ottawa LGBT Film Festival takes place this weekend in Ottawa. In addition to a multitude of great films—like  End of the CenturyChanging the Game, and Our Dance of Revolution—the festival will feature a two day Queer Makers Market at the National Gallery of Canada.

The Embassy of Japan will be hosting Manga Hokusai Manga this weekend. This exhibit chronicles the development of manga, past and present, through books, videos, and works of art by a variety of manga artists.

This weekend marks the final weekend of Fall Rhapsody and the National Capital Commission’s free shuttle to Gatineau Park. It is definitely worth waking up early to catch the first shuttle to the park, as the beautiful Gatineau Hills are a popular spot this time of year and, in addition to lengthy shuttle line ups, the park gets busy.

What’s better than a free dance party? How about a free dance party with free pizza? Rock n Roll Pizza Party has returned and they’ll be slinging pizza and spinning beats this Thursday at the Dominion Tavern.

You won’t want to miss the Grand Opening of Studio Space Ottawa on Friday night. Since its opening this year, 26 artists have taken up residence in Studio Space Ottawa’s shared and private studios. This is a unique opportunity to check out this new artist workspace, which will not be open to the public regularly.

Also happening this Friday is the Merganzer Album Release Show with Paper Beat Scissors at Club SAW. Come hear the beautiful sounds of Merganzer’s newly released album Montage and Paper Beat Scissors’ Parallel Line.

Nature Nocturne takes off on a Moon Mission this Friday night at the Museum of Nature. Suit up in your space suits and get ready for a party that is out of this world!

Why not enjoy an evening of jazz music to wind down your work week? Tenth Ward Shakedown will be taking the stage at the Art House Café this Friday.

Go trick or treating on Elgin Street this Saturday afternoon during A Nightmare on Elgin Street. There will also be free face painting, balloon animals, as well as movie screenings and a Halloween themed dance party at Jack Purcell.

There are a handful of Halloween dance parties at which to shake your tail feather this Saturday night. I put a spell on you combines dinner, drinks, and dancing at allsaints event space.

Another instalment of Haunted Manor Halloween Party IV is happening at Beyond the Pale Brewing Company. Costumes are mandatory and tickets sell out fast for this fangtastic event, so be sure to get your tickets ahead of time.

Tooth and Nail is throwing its fifth annual Halloween Bash, with DJs Hobo and Sweetcheeks. Entry is a cool five bones.

Last, but not least, is the Halloween Dance Party at Oz Kafe. DJs Ricky and Mel will be spinning an all vinyl set all night long.

Head to Lansdowne this Sunday for the Lansdowne Park Pumpkin Derby. Build and race your own pumpkin derby car or make one as a team—there are races for goblins both big and small. While there, be sure to swing by the Lansdowne Farmers’ Market and pick up a pumpkin of your own.

What a fitting weekend for a Historic Cemetery Tour at Billings Estate! Call ahead to reserve your spot and tour the cemetery as the moon rises high… if you dare!
