Weekend Roundup: Quoi faire ?

By Hannah Manning on April 4, 2019

This weekend is about supporting local, be it sports, sugar shacks, or Swedish Furniture.

All Weekend

Did you know Ottawa is home to an urban sugar shack? Experience the Vanier Museopark at their free sugar shack festival this weekend, featuring classic sugar season breakfasts, farm animals and sled dogs, makeup and crafts, lumberjack competitions and taffy.

The TACTICS Mainstage Series presents Swedish Furniture, a compassionate and hilarious cautionary tale with IKEA furniture assembled live on stage.

Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal brings Giselle to the National Arts Centre from April 4 to 6, for the first time in twenty years.

Ottawa’s largest sale of vintage and antiques returns to the Carleton University Fieldhouse.

The Ottawa 67s are home to kick off round 2 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Game 1 is Friday night with Game 2 on Sunday. Gabriel’s Pizza is offering up a sweet deal (pizza and hockey – does it get any better?) so you really have no excuse not to go cheer the boys on.

Thursday

Thursday is for trivia! Beyond the Pale is hosting Brew’s Clues Trivia Night, starting at 7pm, expect 3 rounds of hard questions and great prizes. Toasted Theatre Company is hosting Game of Thrones at LIVE on Elgin at 7:30pm.

Friday

The Vanier Museopark is hosting a movie night as part of their sugar shack festival, featuring a 100% franco-ontarian film: Noël en boîte.

The Brain & Mental Health Art Show returns to Lansdowne. All proceeds from the show are donated to Ancoura, a not-for-profit organization that helps subsidize housing for individuals living with mental illness in the Ottawa area.

Saturday

The Ottawa Fury FC home opener is this Saturday at 2pm against Nashville SC – read up in our preview here and get yourself to TD Place for a great afternoon. Want to win a pair of tickets? Head over to @apt613 on Instagram for your chance!

Twenty five vendors from Toronto to Montreal and everywhere in between will fill the arena at TD Place with vegan goodies at the Vegan Night Market. Advance tickets are recommended because this event is sure to sell out! A portion of the proceeds will be going to Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary & Girls+ Rock Ottawa.

The talented production team Vermouth & Sane are back at it again with Casino Fatale: an Evening of High Roller Burlesque on Saturday night at Café Nostalgica. Get a glimpse of what to expect in our preview here.

Sunday

After a busy weekend, make your way to Queen St. Fare for Jazz Brunch with Django Libre. Food is served as of 10am, and the music starts at 1pm.
